(Toronto, Ont. — November 14, 2025) The Chiefs of Ontario and Ontario Regional Chief Abram Benedict extends their deepest condolences to Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation, and to the family and friends of Chief Lorraine Cobiness, on her recent passing.
Chief Cobiness was a dedicated and respected leader whose decades of service strengthened her community and contributed greatly to First Nations across Ontario. Serving nine consecutive terms as Chief, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment, strong advocacy, and steadfast leadership. Her guidance, generosity, and determination will be profoundly missed.
Her passing is felt deeply throughout the province. We stand with Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation in grieving this loss and in honouring the powerful legacy she leaves behind.
During this profoundly difficult time, we offer our heartfelt sympathies to her family, and the entire community. We recognize the depth of this loss and offer our full support to all those who are grieving.
