(December 8, 2023 – Toronto, Ontario) The Ontario First Nations Young Peoples Council (OFNYPC) proudly congratulates Cindy Woodhouse of Pinaymootang First Nation, Manitoba, on her election as the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief.

“On behalf of First Nations youth in Ontario, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to National Chief Cindy Woodhouse for her well-deserved victory,” expressed the OFNYPC Youth Representative to the AFN National Youth Council Kieran Davis.

The OFNYPC commends National Chief Woodhouse for her dedicated stance on critical issues such as First Nations child and family services, housing and infrastructure, and the recognition of First Nations policing as an essential service.

“We eagerly anticipate collaborating with National Chief Woodhouse to advance the priorities of First Nations youth in Ontario, both at the regional and national levels,” added OFNYPC Youth Representative Pierre Debassige.

The OFNYPC looks forward to engaging with National Chief Woodhouse in constructive discussions, exploring opportunities for the AFN to actively support First Nations youth in Ontario. Given that OFNYPC represents one of the largest and most populous regions in Canada, it is imperative that the AFN is instrumental in delivering results that foster opportunities for youth in the Ontario Region.
