(May 6, 2024 – Toronto, Ontario) On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the Chiefs of Ontario, alongside Ontario First Nations Leadership and representatives from the Indigenous Police Chiefs of Ontario (IPCO) will be holding a press conference followed by a media availability, announcing their intentions to pursue litigation against Ontario and Canada for failing to provide First Nations with equal access to justice and the rule of law as other Canadians.

The press conference will begin promptly at 9:30 A.M. EST, on May 7, 2024, and will begin with the opening remarks from First Nations Leadership. Following these remarks, Leadership and IPCO will highlight the inequalities of justice and law enforcement that have always existed in Ontario, in regions where federal and provincial laws do not apply to reserve lands and/or First Nations people, and how this discrimination causes serious harm and hardship to First Nations.

Following their statements, Leadership will be available to answer questions from the media.

Members of the media are cordially invited to attend as follows:

Date:               Tuesday, May 7, 2024
Time:              9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (EST)
Location:        Queen’s Park Press Gallery, 1 Queens Park, Toronto, ON M7A 1A8

Media accreditation is required.

There is no cost for accredited media to attend.
