Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Annual General Assembly (AGA) and election for National Chief

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is convening the 42nd Annual General Assembly (AGA) hosted in Toronto, Ontario, Territory of Six Nations of Grand River and Treaty Lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (Toronto Purchase, Treaty No. 13), and taking place virtually July 6-8, 2021.

Chiefs from across the country generally come together twice a year to set a strategic direction based on First Nations needs and priorities. The Chiefs Assemblies provide a venue for First Nations leaders to direct the work of the AFN, the National Chief and Executive Committee through resolutions. It is just one way First Nations leaders bring forward concerns and priorities of First Nations members.

In accordance with the Charter of the Assembly of First Nations and the By-laws of the National Indian Brotherhood, an Annual General Assembly is to be held in June or July of every year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in-person gathering restrictions, the July 2021 Annual General Assembly will be hosted virtually to ensure the safety of First Nations leadership and other attendees.

The AFN AGA and National Chief Election will be held virtually (online/telephone). Access to a computer with high-speed internet or telephone/mobile phone will be required.
